3 White Teeth Peroxide Treatment Tips Worth Knowing

Hydrogen Peroxide is one of the most effective teeth whitening treatments. If you've already used some type of teeth whitening treatment or are considering one, chances are the primary whitening agent was peroxide. Because of this, you don't always have to buy the expensive whitening kits. A regular old bottle of hydrogen peroxide can get you similar results at a fraction of the cost. In this article I'll give you three tips for getting the most out of your white teeth peroxide treatment.

1. Teeth whitening peroxide is safe...in moderation
As is the case with most things, excess use of teeth whitening peroxide can be harmful to your teeth. Overuse can cause damage to teeth enamel and the tissue inside your mouth. As a general rule limit peroxide use to daily treatments for only a couple weeks at a time or a couple times a week for a month or two. It's very important that you avoid overuse.

2. 10% is ideal, 30% is dangerous
Most bottles of over-the-counter hydrogen peroxide are 3% concentrated. This level of concentration will work to whiten teeth; however it would take much longer to achieve the ideal whitening level than a 10% concentration solution would take. A 30% solution is also available, but that level of chemical is dangerous to your oral health and should be avoided. Ten percent is ideal for teeth whitening and can be found with a bit of searching.

3. Know the risks
Although teeth whitening peroxide has been declared safe by the FDA, there are still some risk of side effects. They're not particularly dangerous, but things such as mild tooth sensitivity and gum pain are not uncommon. Discontinuing the treatments usually causes the discomfort to go away. Throat soreness is another, less typical side effect. This can be minimized by not swallowing any of the peroxide and not keeping it in your mouth for longer than recommended.

Teeth whitening peroxide treatment is an excellent method for applying at home and at a low cost. Being aware of the three tips above is important to be sure that the treatment goes smoothly and doesn't cause you any harm in the process. Following these tips will help you achieve your white teeth goals and keep your smile healthy and sparkling.
